Amazing Grace
A Counterpoint all-time favourite is this modern gospel-style arrangement of the ever popular John Newton hymn. Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He was involved in the slave trade, had a conversion experience, became an evangelical Anglican cleric and later a slavery abolitionist. The tune New Britain was first associated with the words in 1835. (Published 1779, 1977)

This well known hit was first recorded in 2002 by 1995 Eurovision Song Contest winning group ‘Secret Garden'. Rolf Lovland (composer) was a leader of this band, but it was this 2003 version, recorded by Josh Groban, that made it a world-wide hit. (Published 2002, 2003)
